Founded in May 1994, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) granted nonprofit 501(c)3 status to Themis Institute in August of the same year. Contributions are therefore tax deductible, and Themis Institute can be a designated recipient in local United Way Giving programs. Themis Institute is incorporated in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Structure

Operating primarily in Virginia and the Carolinas, facilitators, guides, and other professionals provide opportunities for personal exploration, through education and direct experience using non-ordinary states of consciousness, integrating spirit, body, and mind.

Board members, officers, and associates of Themis Institute represent the professional community from Virginia and the Carolinas.

Statement of Purpose

Transpersonal theory originates from the viewpoint suggesting there is fundamental unity underlying all of humanity and the material world. Themis Institute Incorporated was formed in order to explore the transpersonal perspective in education, psychology, scientific research, the understanding and treatment of addictions, spiritual practice, the arts, ecology, politics, and other areas of human life.
